Receipt printers pair with the device that runs Eatsy at your counter or in your kitchen — the iPad Kiosk app or the Order Management tablet. They are not paired in admin.eatsyorders.com; printer config lives on the device.
Supported models
Eatsy supports three printer families:
- Star TSP100 — the workhorse. USB or LAN, ESC/POS, fast, reliable.
- Epson TM-m30 — Bluetooth or USB. Quieter than the Star.
- Generic ESC/POS thermal printers — most third-party 80mm thermal printers work, but compatibility isn't guaranteed.
See the full compatibility list in Reference: Supported Printers.
USB vs. Bluetooth
- USB is more reliable. Plug it in and it works. Cable runs are limited but not an issue at most counters.
- Bluetooth is more flexible — printer can sit anywhere within ~30 feet. Trade-off: noisy WiFi environments cause occasional dropouts. If your shop has 80 active phones on WiFi during lunch, USB is the safer bet.
Most operators run Bluetooth at the counter (clean look, no cables) and USB in the kitchen (reliability over aesthetics).
Step 1: Plug in or pair
For USB: plug the printer's USB into the iPad's USB-C port (use Apple's USB-C to USB-A adapter if needed) or the Order Management tablet.
For Bluetooth: turn on the printer's Bluetooth, open iPad/tablet Bluetooth settings, pair.
Step 2: Pair in the Eatsy app
In the Eatsy iPad app (for kiosks) or the Order Management tablet, open Settings → Printers → Add Printer. The app discovers the connected/paired printer and lets you confirm.
Step 3: Test print
Always run a test print before service. From the same Settings panel, tap "Print test receipt." Confirm the layout, the cut, and the readability.
Dual-printer setup
Most full-service restaurants run two printers per location:
- Kitchen printer — paired to the Order Management tablet. Prints kitchen tickets.
- Receipt printer — paired to the iPad Kiosk or POS station. Prints customer receipts.
A bar setup adds a third printer for the bar station.
Routing rules
Which printer prints what (kitchen tickets vs. customer receipts vs. delivery labels) is configured by your onboarding manager during the device pairing call. Examples:
- Kitchen orders → kitchen printer only
- Customer receipts → counter printer only
- Bar items in mixed orders → bar printer + kitchen printer (split ticket)
Common issues
- Printer doesn't print — see Receipt printer not printing.
- Cuts mid-receipt — usually a low paper roll or a worn cutter; check the manufacturer's manual.
- Bluetooth disconnects every few orders — switch to USB or move the printer closer.
Buy a spare roll holder
Receipt paper rolls die at the worst time — mid-Saturday rush. Keep at least 6 spare 80mm rolls behind the counter. Cheap insurance.
