Supported Card Readers

Which card readers work with Eatsy iPad Menu for in-person card and contactless payments. Shift4 and NMI hardware, pricing, and pairing.

Last updated: 4 min min read

Eatsy uses Shift4 or NMI for in-person card and contactless payments — your account is provisioned on whichever gateway your merchant agreement uses. Both gateways certify a specific set of EMV / contactless reader models, and these are the ones we officially support.

Online payments (microsite, Branded App, QR ordering, web checkout) don't need a card reader at all — the gateway tokenizes the customer's card or Apple Pay / Google Pay through the browser.

What each reader supports

Shift4 SkyTab Glass / SkyTab Mobile:

  • EMV chip insert, magstripe swipe, NFC contactless, Apple Pay, Google Pay
  • Built-in screen — operates standalone, no iPad needed for the payment step
  • Comes bundled with Shift4 merchant accounts (no separate hardware purchase in most cases)
  • Best fit if your POS is already Shift4 / SkyTab

Ingenico Lane 3000 / Lane 5000:

  • Counter-mounted EMV terminals certified for both Shift4 and NMI
  • Pair to the iPad via USB so the iPad triggers the payment and the terminal handles the card
  • Lane 5000 adds PIN debit support
  • Most popular for counter operations not already on SkyTab

Ingenico Move 5000 (NMI only):

  • Handheld with LTE — good for tableside payment in full-service restaurants
  • Bluetooth-pair to the iPad

PAX A920 Pro / A60:

  • Android-based all-in-one terminals
  • A920 Pro includes a built-in receipt printer (no separate printer needed in some setups)
  • Both certified for Shift4 and NMI

Pairing a reader to iPad Menu

  1. Open iPad Menu settings

Tap the gear icon in the top corner of the Eatsy iPad app.

  2. Go to Card readers

Tap Settings → Card readers → Add reader.

  3. Select your reader model

Pick the model from the list — SkyTab, Ingenico Lane 3000/5000, Move 5000, or PAX A920/A60.

  4. Follow the pairing prompts

USB-paired readers (Lane 3000, Lane 5000, A60 over USB): plug in and the iPad detects automatically. Wi-Fi / Ethernet readers (A920 Pro, A60 networked): connect the reader to your network via its setup flow, then enter its terminal ID in iPad Menu. SkyTab devices auto-link to your Shift4 account.

  5. Run a $0.50 test transaction

From the Settings → Card readers → Test reader menu. Should complete in 5 seconds and auto-void.

Where to buy

  • Shift4 / SkyTab hardware — provisioned through your Shift4 merchant rep as part of onboarding. We coordinate this during your Eatsy setup.
  • NMI-certified Ingenico / PAX terminals — through your NMI ISO/reseller. Eatsy can recommend partners during onboarding.

Note

We don't take a margin on hardware. Hardware ships from the gateway / payment partner directly to your store.
